Saucy Mama Announces Ultimate 2016 World Food Championships Team

Team Saucy Mama Comprised of 2015 Top 10 Competitors, with One Available Spot

Pendleton, Ore. (March 3, 2016)- Barhyte Specialty Foods is excited to announce the creation of “Team Saucy Mama”, which will be competing at the 2016 World Food Championships (WFC) in November in Orange Beach, Alabama. The team is made up of some of the most extraordinary home cooks in the US, and each one is striving to compete in the Final Table at WFC, where one person is crowned World Food Champion and receives a $100,000 grand prize.

Saucy Mama has offered three competitor spots on the team. Two of these spots are already claimed, as last year’s WFC Saucy Mama competitors earned their way to the Top 10 round and were prequalified to compete again this year.

One of these spots belongs to food blogger Merry Graham (, who’s won more recipe contests than you can count, and plans to compete in the Breakfast Recipe Category. In addition to starring on the Food Network and in Rachael Ray’s Great American Cookbook Competition, Merry has won two Saucy Mama recipe contests with her unique ways of showcasing Saucy Mama products.

The second spot belongs to food blogger Lisa Keys (, who won an unexpected WFC spot last year through Saucy Mama’s Recipe Contest with her Stir Fried Pork Grilled Cheese. Competing in the Sandwich Category again this year, Lisa has also competed on – and won- Food Network’s Chopped show.

The final team spot, along with a travel stipend, will belong to the winner of the 2016 Saucy Mama Recipe Contest, which will launch this spring and is a Preferred Qualifying Contest for WFC.

In addition to the competing chefs, Saucy Mama is proud to have food blogger and dessert-chef-extraordinaire Heather Walker ( as a sous chef for Team Saucy Mama. Heather has placed in the Top 10 in both 2014’s and 2015’s WFC Dessert Category and is a great addition to the team.

WFC is the mecca of food competitions with professional chefs and home cooks flocking from all over the world to test their skills in the ultimate arena and grab a piece of the $300,000 prize purse. Last year’s event will be televised during Summer 2016.

Barhyte Specialty Foods, based out of Pendleton, Oregon, has roots dating back 200 years and 6,000 miles away in Germany, where Jacobus Barhyte first created a sweet-and-sour mustard that he brought to the US. Many generations later, Jan and Suzie Barhyte began selling mustard from the original recipe, as well as other signature creations, through their Swift and Martin Station Deli in Pendleton. Thanks to overwhelming demand, the family launched their own manufacturing operation in 1977. Today, the company offers more than 65 award-winning mustards, marinades, salad dressings and other condiments through multiple premium brands, such as the signature Saucy Mama name, as well as through co-branded and private label relationships.
